About the Role:

The Prep Cook plays a crucial role in the kitchen by ensuring that all ingredients and supplies are prepared and ready for use by the culinary team. This position supports the smooth operation of food service by performing essential food preparation tasks such as washing, chopping, measuring, and portioning ingredients. The Prep Cook contributes to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. By efficiently preparing ingredients, the Prep Cook enables chefs and cooks to focus on cooking and plating dishes, thereby enhancing overall kitchen productivity. This role requires attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced culinary setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a team environment.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Prior experience in a kitchen or food preparation setting is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., ServSafe).
• Experience working in a fast-paced restaurant or catering environment.
• Familiarity with kitchen equipment and culinary terminology.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize duties during busy service times.

Responsibilities:

• Wash, peel, chop, and prepare vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients according to recipe specifications.
• Measure and portion ingredients accurately to ensure consistency and quality in food preparation.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area, including sanitizing work surfaces and equipment.
• Assist with inventory management by receiving and storing deliveries properly and reporting shortages or spoilage.
• Follow all food safety and hygiene guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with health regulations.

Skills:

The Prep Cook utilizes basic culinary skills daily to prepare ingredients that meet quality and safety standards, ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently. Attention to detail is essential when measuring and portioning ingredients to maintain consistency in recipes.
