The Facilities Maintenance Engineer is responsible to oversee, trouble shoot and perform skilled maintenance and repairs on the physical structure and associated equipment of the hospital. Keeps facilities in good repair and operational to provide for the safety and comfort of patients, visitors, and caregivers by keeping the facility in peak operational condition. This position does not directly manage any other caregiver. Essential functions include assisting the supervisor in tasks, staying current with new technologies, maintaining safety and comfort of facility occupants, maintaining all equipment assigned, leading special projects, operating and repairing hospital utility, energy, and life safety systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, electrical systems, medical gas/vacuum systems, emergency power, water and sewer systems, fire alarm systems, and other facilities-related equipment. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency. Writes work orders and trouble calls in the computerized maintenance management system. Responds to fire alarms and code calls, performs security functions, assists with training other caregivers. Requires excellent mechanical aptitude, ability to read blueprints and manuals, ability to work independently and in teams, assists with snow removal, performs chemical testing and treatment on hospital systems, handles customer-initiated work requests, supports organizational vision, mission and values, complies with laws and regulations, maintains knowledge of Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA requirements, delivers customer service promoting goodwill, and may perform additional duties as assigned. Education required includes high school diploma or GED, with certifications or licenses in HVAC/R, plumbing, or electrical trades preferred or applicable trade experience. Requires valid Oregon driver's license and ability to travel to all worksites. Experience required includes 5 years in facilities and plant operations, including boiler and chiller operation, and 1 year in electrical, electronic, plumbing, or refrigeration work. Preferred experience includes hospital maintenance, military facilities training, electronic DDC controls, and power generation equipment. Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting, climbing, and exposure to various environmental factors. Schedule is variable with possible weekend and holiday shifts.
